California fires live updates: Death toll in Los Angeles fires rises to 24

 

At least 24 people are believed to be dead and more than a dozen others remain unaccounted for as multiple fires, fuelled by severe drought conditions and strong Santa Ana winds, continue to rage across Southern California, leaving fire crews scrambling to contain the historic destruction.

 

Thousands of firefighters are battling several sprawling wildfires across 45 square miles of densely populated Los Angeles County. The largest, the Palisades Fire, in Pacific Palisades, has scorched nearly 24,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures and is 11% contained. The Eaton Fire, in Altadena, now stands at more than 14,100 acres and is 27% contained. The Hurst Fire near Sylmar has burned 799 acres and is 89% contained.

About 105,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders and another 87,000 are under evacuation warnings.

Patrick Kluivert Officially Named Indonesian National Football Coach.

Former Dutch football star Patrick Kluivert has been appointed as the head coach of Indonesia’s national football team under a two-year contract, with optional extensions. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced the appointment on its website on Wednesday, saying that Kluivert will be joined by two Dutch assistants, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat.

 

“In addition, two Indonesian coaches will join the team as Kluivert’s assistants,” the association added, though their names have not yet been disclosed. The website posts his photograph with a welcoming remark.

Kluivert had an illustrious international career with the Netherlands national team, earning 79 caps and scoring 40 goals. He played in major tournaments, including the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup, and remains one of the Netherlands’ all-time top scorers.

‘Shrek 5’ Pushes Release to December 2026, ‘Minions 3’ Moves Up to Summer 2026

 

Universal Pictures is adjusting its movie release calendar for upcoming titles from two venerable animation franchises.

The studio announced Friday that DreamWorks Animation‘s Shrek 5 is now set for release on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2026, after previously having been dated for July 1, 2026. Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon are directing Shrek 5 with Brad Ableson as co-director.

 

In a twinned move, Minions 3 from Illumination is now set to hit theatres on July 1, 2026, moving up from its previously planned release date of June 30, 2027. Pierre Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me films and the first Minions spinoff movie, is helming Minions 3 from a script from Brian Lynch.
